I recently started typesetting the psalms we’re using in church for the responsive reading.
For those of you not familiar with what we’re doing, we’re singing the responsive reading instead of saying it. Would you read through a book of your favorite songs? Of course not. The Psalms were meant to be sung, so that’s how we’re doing it.
Psalm 15 has an odd stanza structure and thus, rather than sing it antiphonally, we sang straight through in unison.
Psalm 16, however, lends itself fairly well to the antiphonal structure. The Psalms are written, for the most part, antiphonally, with a call and response. There are a few tricolons which are tricky, because we don’t have a practical solution at this time to those. They are evident in some of the longer lines.
